I totally own up to my own prejudices there since I’m not a cryer.
I think, for ME, what I loved about book!claire was her pragmatism (jamie’s too for that matter). I am a pragmatist so it was what I saw of me in her that got lost (again: for me) in TV!claire. That is probably why I’m so incensed by it: the part of me that I saw in that strong woman was gone.
I think, like CG said above, if book!claire didn’t exist i wouldn’t have batted an eyelash and her hangdog look.
Probably a good time to remember that we don’t all focus on the same parts of the characters! (For instance I feel terrible for leoghaire. Most fans appear to not feel this way.)
