I LOVE what you told your son. I too have a son, now grown, and between his older sister,me,and his father he grew up being called on any behavior that demeaned or disregarded women. It is of note that every young woman he has dated for any length of time has been a strong and smart lady. I guess something worked (maybe his sisters threats of physical violence?!)
