JBI dunno, I think the Irish story is equally interesting! You could weave quite a piece of historical fiction out of that germ — can you imagine how your ancestor’s family felt when they realized he wasn’t coming back with the money? I wonder if he felt guilty and how that guilt informed his life. How did you dig up those details?
I have remarkably little interest in my own family history (though I’m technically only second-generation American — my grandfather was born in Kiev), but I could listen to others’ in-depth.
