This is an interesting topic, I grew up in Montreal speaking both languages, now live in Nova Scotia where English, some very old french and gaelic ( yes) is spoken. Generally french speaking people in Canada speak a variant of 18th century french, depending on their isolation they have retained some very old form. Looking at 18th century writings would provide much insight as to the verbal form.
