The older I get, the more I understand that where people are concerned, there are no absolutes! If you try to say “All __________ (fill in women, men, blacks, whites, gays, hetero. christians, jews, muslims, feminists, anti-feminists, etc.) are _____________ (fill in right, wrong, superior, inferior, smart, stupid etc.) then I see red. This is why I love the Outlander series so much. Diana’s characters are human with flaws. They are believable as people. We are given a great deal of context to understand why the characters do something, whether it be the time they live in or an experience they have had (thus the length of the books). And because of this, I am able to empathize with the characters and their choices.
