I think the moment she stepped forward in that small crofter’s cottage, insisting she help set Jamie’s shoulder correctly, was the moment I sat up and really paid attention to her. Before that, she was just the narrative POV. But in that cottage, she recognized her perilous position and still couldn’t help but be herself. She knew what to do, and damn the circumstances! she was going to it.
