Women were so stylish back then. My grandmother was always dressed and “company ready” even when she was just staying in her house. (She is close to Claire’s age. Born in 1917.)
it’s incredible how much this looks like Caitriona. Had you already seen her photo? Thank you for the blog, Terry, and all the insights into your wonderful work. I was taken while watching the show’s credits with how many costume people are involved… Adding such lovely texture (pun intended!) to the show.

Curious why, if that was from before Catriona was cast, why the Claire in the sketch is so thin?
Thanks!
Mara 🙂
It’s just a sketch of a costume. The point is to show the clothing, not to exactly portray a body type. Though this sketch is of a pretty curvy woman.
Thanks for your reply! Loving your work on Outlander. 🙂
My mom was born in 1918.
My Mom was as well, God rest her soul. Claire and Frank clothes remind me of early memories of Mom and Dad!
Your sketch of Claire looks remarkably like Caitriona Balfe! It’s lovely.

I had not seen her picture, it was some time before she was cast. Cue Twighlight Zone music…
